I’ve been on a quiet movement of the book for over three years now. Out of the blue, Tate Publishing offered me a contract that will provide an opportunity for me to be fully published by a good group of people. I ‘m very excited and look forward to working with my publisher and bringing the first book, “Beyond the Map’s Boundary” into the public eye more fully. The second book is already written and the third is on its way, so there will be an adventure ahead.
I am starting to send out requests for advanced reviews of the sequel to Beyond the Map’s Boundary called The Chronicles of Quant. Last summer I did a virtual tour with Pump Up Your Book and had a lot of good reviews and interviews. I received some excellent reviews on the first book and have decided to start the marketing process on the sequel by going back to those original blogs first. It might even be fun to try and set up my own virtual book tour this year and open up the channels to anyone who would like to participate in that on their blogs. Email me from this site if you’re interested and I’ll fire you off an ebook to review and write about.

I don’t think anyone really grows up in every aspect of their life and thank heavens for that. Some things linger in the ‘kid’ part of my brain that seems to never go away. As I’ve grow older these allow me to recapture the excitement that still lingers in those pockets of childhood wishes and time travel is at the top of my list.
I think about it often. I’ve daydreamed how it would be and what I would do. There are people I would love to see and watch them in the original environment they existed in. I’ve always thought how wonderful it would be if I could go back just long enough to help them survive a traumatic event or offer them some information that would improve their life. I’d be a hero and everyone would love me. I’ve entertained thoughts of how I could go back in time for nearly 50 years now and eight years ago I started writing down what the rules might be if it were possible.
As I’ve traveled the world since I was seven years old, ancient or even rundown buildings and cities would spark my imagination, wondering what the people were like back then when the building or city was first built. Perhaps I had some ancestors that lived there and their footprints would be all over the place. That’s what got me thinking about how I could travel back in time. Being blood related, perhaps I could see my ancestor’s footprints glow, beckoning me back to their time.
Beyond the Map’s Boundary, my first novel in the series, brings all of those crazy thoughts together to paint a fun, fast paced, ever twisting time travel novel for young adults. It’s sequel, The Chronicles of Quant, brings to life the magical powers that I’ve always wanted to possess.

As a self promoted author I’m always looking for good tools of the trade that make my job easier. Press Releases are always a challenge and creating the headline is a headache. At least it always has been until now. I discovered a headline tool that actually rates the quality of your headline and gives immediate feedback. It’s called “Emotional Marketing Value Headline Analyzer” and can be found at http://www.aminstitute.com/headline/.
Communication is the key of effective marketing. And the key to communication is being able to reach the client at an emotional level. Involving them in your copy, and invoking their deeper thoughts.
While many marketers ‘guess’ how people will react to various words and offers, this tool gives you an actual rating that you can use to judge how well received your copy will be to others.
You simply enter your headline, select a category and submit it for analysis. It coaches you with a score that evaluates the Emotional Marketing Value (EMV)of your headline and ranks it.
For comparison, most professional copywriters’ headlines will have 30%-40% EMV Words in their headlines, while the most gifted copywriters will have 50%-75% EMV words in headlines. A perfect score would be 100%, but that is rare unless your headline is less than five words.
It’s worth bookmarking this site. Play with it for a while and it may surprise you how good you get at creating emotionally charged headlines.
We received three different requests for foreign rights for the first novel in the Beyond the Map’s Boundary series. These came from a book fair in Balogna this spring and was offered by ForeWord Magazine and Reviews.
The requests came from Turkey, Brazil and Germany.
This adds a further credibility to the book and an exciting twist to all of us here at Thornock International.
Wow! What a terrific group of students! Suzanne Lowry, the Media Specialist (who, by-the-way, had a fantastic costume on today) tried to prepare me for the possibility of a rambunctious group, due to the costumes and predominantly substitute teachers being present today. She could see how excited the children were, but no one had the slightest idea that they would be so respectful, attentive and participatory. They were FANTASTIC! Even the little pre-school children were well behaved and involved in the presentation.
Credit goes to the wonderful preparation Mrs. Lowry put forth and council she gave before the students arrived in the gym. My warmest thanks goes out to you, Suzanne, along with the cute cowboy Principal (who seems to know how to do everything) and muscle-demo man and all of the excellent teachers there at Canyon Elementary.
Nibi Soto has teamed up with Thornock International Productions to offer US visitors the chance to win one of 5 copies of the new Beyond the Map’s Boundary audiobook. Simply complete the form found at this linkand submit it. On or about March 25, 2011 the winners will be drawn at random from the correct entries. Good Luck!

I did a presentation today to the most amazing group of over 400 students, grades three through six, at South Weber Elementary School, South Weber, Utah. They were exceptionally bright and well behaved, which is a tribute to their parents, teachers and the school administrators. It’s something they all can be proud of.
I want to thank the Librarian, Jan Stanger for setting up the assembly and all the work she did to help the children get ready. Also, the Principal, Marilyn Hales, was so very generous with her time to mentor me in an even better presentation. These two woman are amazing! Special thanks to Jennifer and others whose names I do not know, to get the equipment up and running. Good people!
I had a lot of fun and plan to return for lunch on the 21st of this month to do more book signings.
Until then, you South Weber readers…”Happy Reading!”
This is truly one of the most amazing time-traveler stories I ever read and for sure is among the best three books I’ve read this year. The plot is so full of twists that keeps us, the readers, on the edge on every page we turn. The description of the characters and their actions is so rich in details that we feel ourselves traveling together with Mattie or helping Trevor supporting her throughout the book.
When we talk about time traveling stories, classics like The Time Machine (H.G. Wells), or Timeline (Michael Crichton) are always remembered. This book is destined to be remember as one of the greatest science-fantasy time-travelers stories ever. The author wrote a masterpiece that deserves a massive audience and I am eager to read the sequence of this incredible saga. (read more here…)
This fun, fast read pulls you in quickly and sends you along time hopping and teleporting!
The author has created a time traveling world with its own special jargon: Trekkers, Splitters, Divvys, Boosts and more. There is a “Words and Terms” in the back to help follow the new buzz terms. The action is fast paced from beginning to end and…
Beyond the Map’s Boundary: A Timely Sort of Adventure by Nibi Soto is a fantasy adventure involving a family of time-travelers. Although aimed at the young adult market, I believe that it will appeal to many older adults as well. The characters are realistic and interesting. The action is tense and starts immediately; a quiet family picnic suddenly turns into a life-and-death struggle, a step in the wrong spot sends someone zooming back in time. (read more…)
Nancy Drew meets Kage Baker’s The Company. Nibi Soto has created an enjoyable world where time travel is a reality to Trekkers, a select few who have inherited the DNA and are gifted with the secret knowledge of their ancestors. Soto’s characters are refreshingly charming. This is a quick, fanciful read enjoyable for readers of all ages.
I would recommend Beyond the Map’s Boundary to readers of young adult, fantasy, paranormal, adventure, and mystery genres and especially to young fans of lighthearted time travel adventures. (read more…)
The Story Behind ‘Beyond the Map’s Boundary’
By Nibi Soto
My father was born with the ‘Travel Bug’ and passed it on to me. For as long as I can remember we were on the road every summer for the entire length of his vacation. He drove our family all over the United States, Canada and Mexico to see historical landmarks that made the subject of history in school come alive for my brothers and me. By the time I was 17 we had been in every state of the Union a minimum of four times each, with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska. After high school I traveled to both of them numerous times, as well as all over the world. I developed a fascination for world history the same as I had for American history.
What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?
The most frustrating side of becoming a published author was trying to push through the walls that the publishers put up around them for new authors. This economy has made it very difficult for them and for anyone who has a dream of becoming published.
The most rewarding part of being published is knowing that something I enjoyed creating so much can now be shared with other fantasy lovers from all over the world. I absolutely love to… (READ MORE…)
Welcome to Book Marketing Buzz, Nibi. Can we begin by having you tell us a little about your book?
I’d love to. Beyond the Map’s Boundary is the story of Mattie and Trevor, two teenagers that discover they are anything but average when she starts having visions of past civilizations and witnessing historical scenes appearing on particles of light. Their easy going lives turn into a fast and furious chain of events as they stumble onto magical powers that they didn’t know they had. These new abilities help them narrowly escape the…(read more)

I’ve traveled all of my life and have always been fascinated with historical places and ancient things. As I strolled through old, dilapidated structures, I used to imagine how they would have looked when they were first built and what the people were like. Over 20 years ago I began to imagine how wonderful it would be to travel back in time and be apart of their lives for just one day. I entertained some ideas as to how I might do that and began jotting down notes in a book I carried around with me. When two of my granddaughters started writing stories for school, I caught the bug myself. I read the kids my first chapter to see what they thought. To my surprise they loved it and wanted more. As I started on the next chapter it was as if… (read more)
Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and how long have you been writing?
Originally born in Idaho, sandwiched between two brothers, my parents moved to Utah when I was six years old. I have lived here the majority of my life at the base of the majestic Wasatch Mountains. I love to learn and am not afraid to apply what I learn. I enjoy the adventurous side of life and get a thrill out of discovering new talents and developing new skills. I figure I’m going to have to live 140 years just to…
I start my Virtual Book Tour today with an interview with Working Writers. You will be able to read the interview here. This will be the first in a two week run and a new experience for me. I love the feeling of being excited and a little fearful on a new adventure. It keeps me sharp and observant. It should be fun. I’ll keep you updated on my experiences with this tour as it moves along.
For the first two weeks of June, I will be doing a Virtual Book Tour for the first time. Pump Up Your Book has just posted an invitation to blogs and pod casters to reserve a spot for Beyond the Map’s Boundary on their schedules. I’ve done a fair amount of due diligence on this company and they have a very good reputation for promoting online. It should be a lot of fun to see what happens and who picks up the novel to review. Another adventure is always fun!
Sue Rakes wrote a wonderful book review leading up to the booksigning at Borders Bookstore in Logan, UT on Saturday the 24th of April. Left click on the article and then use your scroll while holding down the control key on your computer keyboard to enlarge the article for you so you can read it easier.
I’ve been sending out NibiBooks for people to circulate. Some have caught the vision, but most haven’t. Either they are reading them and passing them on without registering them on this site (which is a shame) or they have set them on the shelf.
Come on you Fantasy lovers! Get them out there and keep the fun going. Be sure to register them before you let them go.
Watch what happens at the 1 minute 7 second mark and see how things change…
I’m researching Virtual Book Tours on the internet to see what options are available. A Virtual Book Tour is said to be the way of the future, but the future is now! I’ll let you know what I find out as I continue to learn.
My publisher just returned from Ashland, OH where he met with the distributors at BookMasters, Inc. The first edition is now available and can be found in bookstores across the country. You may need to request one from your local bookstore because it is so new to the market. Please do! We’re excited about this first of several books to follow in the sequel.
