Thoughts of the process towards publication…

Review: Books and Movies

This is truly one of the most amazing time-traveler stories I ever read and for sure is among the best three books I’ve read this year. The plot is so full of twists that keeps us, the readers, on the edge on every page we turn. The description of the characters and their actions is so rich in details that we feel ourselves traveling together with Mattie or helping Trevor supporting her throughout the book.

When we talk about time traveling stories,  classics like The Time Machine (H.G. Wells), or Timeline (Michael Crichton) are always remembered. This book is destined to be remember as one of the greatest science-fantasy time-travelers stories ever. The author wrote a masterpiece that deserves a massive audience and I am eager to read the sequence of this incredible saga.  (read more here…)

VBT Review by Martha’s Bookshelf

This fun, fast read pulls you in quickly and sends you along time hopping and teleporting!

The author has created a time traveling world with its own special jargon: Trekkers, Splitters, Divvys, Boosts and more. There is a “Words and Terms” in the back to help follow the new buzz terms. The action is fast paced from beginning to end and…

VBT Book Review: by The Very Latest Thing

Beyond the Map’s Boundary: A Timely Sort of Adventure by Nibi Soto is a fantasy adventure involving a family of time-travelers. Although aimed at the young adult market, I believe that it will appeal to many older adults as well. The characters are realistic and interesting. The action is tense and starts immediately; a quiet family picnic suddenly turns into a life-and-death struggle, a step in the wrong spot sends someone zooming back in time. (read more…)

VBT Book Review: FromtheShadows.com

Nancy Drew meets Kage Baker’s The Company. Nibi Soto has created an enjoyable world where time travel is a reality to Trekkers, a select few who have inherited the DNA and are gifted with the secret knowledge of their ancestors.  Soto’s characters are refreshingly charming.   This is a quick, fanciful read enjoyable for readers of all ages.

I would recommend Beyond the Map’s Boundary to readers of young adult, fantasy, paranormal, adventure, and mystery genres and especially to young fans of lighthearted time travel adventures.  (read more…)

The Story Behind ‘Beyond the Map’s Boundary’
By Nibi Soto

My father was born with the ‘Travel Bug’ and passed it on to me. For as long as I can remember we were on the road every summer for the entire length of his vacation. He drove our family all over the United States, Canada and Mexico to see historical landmarks that made the subject of history in school come alive for my brothers and me. By the time I was 17 we had been in every state of the Union a minimum of four times each, with the exception of Hawaii and Alaska. After high school I traveled to both of them numerous times, as well as all over the world. I developed a fascination for world history the same as I had for American history.

To this day I get an indescribable thrill when I… (read more)

What do you consider as the most frustrating side of becoming a published author and what has been the most rewarding?

The most frustrating side of becoming a published author was trying to push through the walls that the publishers put up around them for new authors. This economy has made it very difficult for them and for anyone who has a dream of becoming published.

The most rewarding part of being published is knowing that something I enjoyed creating so much can now be shared with other fantasy lovers from all over the world. I absolutely love to… (READ MORE…)

Interviewed by Book Marketing Buzz

Welcome to Book Marketing Buzz, Nibi.  Can we begin by having you tell us a little about your book?

I’d love to.  Beyond the Map’s Boundary is the story of Mattie and Trevor, two teenagers that discover they are anything but average when she starts having visions of past civilizations and witnessing historical scenes appearing on particles of light.  Their easy going lives turn into a fast and furious chain of events as they stumble onto magical powers that they didn’t know they had.  These new abilities help them narrowly escape the…(read more)

The Story Behind the Book: Nibi Soto’s Beyond the Map’s Boundary

To this day I get an indescribable thrill when I stand in the middle of ancient ruins where my ancestors possibly stood many centuries ago.  Places like the streets of the Roman Empire or Ephesus set my imagination on fire.  It was amazing to me that… (read more)

Interview by the Hot Author Report

Q: What compelled you to write your first book?

I’ve traveled all of my life and have always been fascinated with historical places and ancient things. As I strolled through old, dilapidated structures, I used to imagine how they would have looked when they were first built and what the people were like.  Over 20 years ago I began to imagine how wonderful it would be to travel back in time and be apart of their lives for just one day.  I entertained some ideas as to how I might do that and began jotting down notes in a book I carried around with me.  When two of my granddaughters started writing stories for school, I caught the bug myself.  I read the kids my first chapter to see what they thought.  To my surprise they loved it and wanted more.  As I started on the next chapter it was as if… (read more)

Interview by Working Writers

Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from and how long have you been writing?

Originally born in Idaho, sandwiched between two brothers, my parents moved to Utah when I was six years old. I have lived here the majority of my life at the base of the majestic Wasatch Mountains. I love to learn and am not afraid to apply what I learn. I enjoy the adventurous side of life and get a thrill out of discovering new talents and developing new skills. I figure I’m going to have to live 140 years just to…

The Virtual Book Tour Begins – Day 1

I start my Virtual Book Tour today with an interview with Working Writers.  You will be able to read the interview here.  This will be the first in a two week run and a new experience for me.  I love the feeling of being excited and a little fearful on a new adventure.  It keeps me sharp and observant.  It should be fun.  I’ll keep you updated on my experiences with this tour as it moves along.

Virtual Book Tour Teaser

For the first two weeks of June, I will be doing a Virtual Book Tour for the first time.  Pump Up Your Book has just posted an invitation to blogs and pod casters to reserve a spot for Beyond the Map’s Boundary on their schedules.  I’ve done a fair amount of due diligence on this company and they have a very good reputation for promoting online.  It should be a lot of fun to see what happens and who picks up the novel to review.  Another adventure is always fun!

Book Signing

I am doing a book signing in Logan, Utah at Borders on Saturday, April 24th between 1:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M.

We’ll be holding some drawings for posters and an audio book.  It should be fun!  Pray for rain because the bookstore fills up on a rainy day.

See you there!

Update

I’ve been sending out NibiBooks for people to circulate.  Some have caught the vision, but most haven’t.  Either they are reading them and passing them on without registering them on this site (which is a shame) or they have set them on the shelf.

Come on you Fantasy lovers!  Get them out there and keep the fun going.  Be sure to register them before you let them go.

Fascinating for You Writers

Watch what happens at the 1 minute 7 second mark and see how things change…

I’m researching Virtual Book Tours on the internet to see what options are available.  A Virtual Book Tour is said to be the way of the future, but the future is now!  I’ll let you know what I find out as I continue to learn.

Book Review: by The Book Faerie

We received another review today from “The Book Faerie”, Jo Ann Hakola.

Brief review:
“You have to read almost three pages before this book grabs you and takes you “on the run!  this is fast paced, full of action, and will totally fascinate young adult readers…”

Final Touches Before Official Publication

We recently completed the photo sessions for the characters in the book.  The Mattie that you see to the right, setting a Half-Parallel, is Kristen Campbell.  She’s 17.  Actually Kristen has the deepest brown eyes I’ve ever seen and is such a fine young woman.  She said she always wondered what she’d look like with blue eyes.  I think she looks good both ways.  She and the young man that we photographed as Trevor (Logan Hall) spent a Saturday afternoon in my studio a couple of weeks ago posing for the chapter headings along with a few other shots for future use.  It was really fun to work with them both.  You can see how photogenic they are (seeing Kristen).  You’ll see Logan in the book when it’s Published at the end of February.  He recently returned from a mission of his own and is engaged to another young woman that would have made a wonderful model for Mattie, if she had only had dark hair.  She was a good sport in sharing her fiance’ with us (so close to the wedding) to be photographed along side another pretty young woman.

In the final printing, on the illustration for chapter 28, the twin girl you’ll see there is actually the real Mattie Karrington that I based my character on.  She is darling, too, an so fearless.  What a good person she is as well and has truly been an inspiration to this old writer since I met her at girls’ camp when she was 12.  She’s barely 15 in real life, but a mature, amazing 15.

I would consider all of these models to be the cream of the crop when it comes to young people.  The boy twin in chapter 28 is Mattie’s real brother, Cadin, though we doctored him up a bit.  He actually is preparing to go into training to become a Navy Seal.  His father was a Navy Seal and they plan to start his training prior to actually enlisting.  Anyway, his head was already shaved and we had to put some hair on him.   Cadin is quite a character.  He currently looks quite different from the picture that appears in the final book.

Thanks kids.  You’re the best!

Book II In Progress

I find writing an absolute screem!  I’ve started the second novel in the series and can hardly take time to do housework, go to grandkids ballgames, feed the hungry mouths in the house and sleep.  It is the biggest adventure to write.  I can’t think of anything right now that provides more adventure and fun than creating this new world in my head.

I’ve completed 2 chapters at the beginning of the book (still tweeking them as I go) and nearly 2 chapters near the end of the book.

My mind is racing the moment I get up, all through the day and just as I’m going to sleep at night.  The ideas just keep pouring in.  The biggest problem is keeping track of them all, but I have my own Book of Ancestors that helps me do that.

Our First Book of the Month Award

5-StarRating

I got up this morning to exercise (as usual) and opened up my email as I walked (as usual).  To my excitement I discovered a note from AllBooks Review that Beyond the Map’s Boundary had been selected the Ebook Feature of the Month.  A 5 star review at that!

Now how exciting is that?  How many thousands of ebooks do they have to choose from and they chose mine!   The ebook is barley out there and the printed book is only in the pre-order stage!   :)

Searching the Net for Notoriety

While we wait for the national reviews to be completed, we spend our time searching the net for ways to spread the news of the novel.  With a release date of February 2010, we need to take advantage of the time between now and then to get the title of the book and my name out there…everywhere!

I don’t have the fortune of a Sarah Pallen, nor the fame she has, and the road to stardom is much slower and tedious than she has experienced.  However, she’s certainly been abused unfairly by the media and others.  That’s been rather remarkable for one person who wasn’t even elected to command so much attention.  That says something, doesn’t it?   I admire her tenacity, but am grateful that I do not have her cross to bare myself.

Thanks for Giving

There are a lot of things written about this special day in the history of America.  To me, I give thanks to my creator for “giving” me the opportunity to be born to goodly parents, in the land of the free and home of the brave, at this most extraordinary time in the history of the world.

Regardless of the corruption that we are experiencing in our government today, we still are blessed beyond measure.   I think it would be wise to appreciate it and stand up for what’s right before we lose our freedom and our choices.  All the success in the world or money in the world will never compensate for the loss of our free agency.

I have so much to be thankful for that there’s not enough time in a day to identify and list them all.

May the Lord bless and keep you this Thanksgiving and Christmas season and may you feel the peace that comes from standing in holy places.
